MAFALDA 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Argentine cartoonist, Quino, created the much loved animated character, Mafalda in 1962, although she wasn't published until 1964. Mafalda is a 6 year old girl strangely conQuino's Mafaldacerned about humanity and world peace. She often leaves her parents at a loss by asking about mature or complex topics, such as war, politics, inequalities etc. The comic strip was very popular in Latin America, Europe, Quebec and in Asia, leading to two animated cartoon series and a book!
The strip ran in a weekly newspaper, Primera Plan from 1964 to 1965, when the publication ceased. One week later, the comic strip began appearing daily in the Buenos Aires' Mundo, allowing the author to follow current events more closely. This newspaper shut down in 1967 but yet again, Mafalda survived and in 1968, was publised in the weekly paper, Siete Días Illustrados. Quino ceased publication of the much loved strip in 1973. After 1973, Quino still drew Mafalda a few times, mostly to promote human rights. In 1976, he produced Mafalda for the UNICEF illustrating the Convention on the Rights of the Child
Our students from 3rd and 4th Primary Education have worked about this character and her friends. These are some of the drawings they've created.
